About

Lemmingball Z

Lemmingball Z is a fighting game for linux and windows, loosely based on `Dragonball Z` the hit anime. And when we say loosely based, we mean with a big twist. Instead off the normal characters from the anime, this game features cute LEMMINGS fighting DBZ style!

Main features

  • Destructible 3d terrain
  • Ability to add your own levels/characters/moves to the game
  • Multiplayer with 2-4 players online or local
  • Good old-fashioned Hot-seat play
  • Slow-motion, like in “The Matrix”
  • Fancy graphics, like cell-shading and stuff
  • Netplay, without configuring or hamachi
  • Stupid AI to practice with
  • Blood! lots of it! ?

History

LBZ was created somewhere at the end of 1999 and the start of 2000. It was my first try at making a game, up till then i only coded small utility’s/effects. LBZ was first written in Quick BASIC, for DOS and it had 800×600 resolution and sprites, and very basic gameplay. When the game became to big for basic, i ported it to PASCAL and then almost immediately to C++ (using OpenGL for graphics). After this LBZ quickly evolved, it got features like destructible terrain and slow-motion.

The future

LBZ is a bit of a “pet project”…. it will constantly evolve. I don’t plan on stopping with this, since it’s a lot of fun working on LBZ! Things i would like to create for LBZ in the future include:

  • Interactive levels, with scripts, triggered events
  • 100% mod-ability! Be able to mod any aspect of the game. 60% done.
  • Ports to most major game consoles

      1. Hi! I have not seen the crash log appear. Could you send the cb9runtimelog.txt to me? Also, when does the crash happen? At the “upgrading” screen?

        1. To me it crashes in the middle of a fight ;_;. What do I need to do? I mean it’s a good game and all, but it crashes in the fight!

  3. help it Menne it doesn’t work it says a wild message dialog appeared and then it says
    EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION
a log book of this event will be sent to the developer.

      1. I downloaded the LBZ file from this site, but when I tried to open the game, it would say fmodex.dll was missing, even though it was clearly there. When I downloaded LBZ v 7.0 from indiedb, the game would load, but then it would say “updater failed no news”, then I pressed okay, and I just got stuck on this screen with a bunch of moving Dragon Balls. I tried pressing every button on my keyboard, but I couldn’t get past this screen. Please help.

        1. Hi, as far as I know there is no version of LBZ called LBZ v 7.0 you probably downloaded a mod for version 8460.

As for the version from this site. Try running WIN_TOOL_UNINSTAL.bat that should clear up any previous versions that could be getting in the way.

  4. I’m pretty sure this is a bug, but whenever I to look at any of the movesets, the game freezes and if i hold it to long it makes me timeout of my online session. I really want to be able to look at my movesets

(Sorry I put my other post in the wrong spot)

  5. Its not working.I try to start the game but it doesn’t start and the cursor has that blue circle rolling around it.When i try to close it in task manager it keeps closing and opening making it impossible to stop unless i delete it.Thanks -_-

  6. I when I try to run lbzwin after following the installion note, it says fmodex.dll is not there when it is in the folder. What do I do?

          1. You could try going to your “My Documents” folder, and then to the “LBZ ALPHA Game Data” folder.
Once you are there, remove the “engines” folder and then try to start the game again.

          2. It did work, but then I got an update screen with a part of it was black. Idon’t know if that’s normal or not. But then I cb9 message appeared saying, “Unhandled expection 9ParseFail: ‘Coul not load new VM for data/menu/formatters/animidformatter.lgs’
A logbook of this event will be sent to the developer.

          3. Hi! 1 step further.

I think you can fix this if you execute WIN_TOOL_UNINSTALL.BAT, this should clean up the corrupted profile. Then start the game and accept the updates it gives you.

          4. I executed the win tool Uninstall and runned the game. I got a error then the same error from my original problem. I deleted the engines folder runned the game. It worked! Thanks for the support!
